Interpretation of “ Aberrant ” Drug - Related Behaviors
نویسنده
چکیده
Diagnosis of opioid addiction in chronic pain sufferers is often triggered by occurrence of what have been called aberrant drugrelated behaviors. Ambiguities inherent in this approach affect patient care adversely. Rather than consistently signifying abuse or addiction, these behaviors are often motivated by undertreated pain. Appropriate clinical responses are suggested here, as well as a diagnostic approach prioritizing recognition of undertreated pain.

We systematically reviewed published literature identified through searches of Ovid MEDLINE and the Cochrane databases through July 2008. Diagnostic test characteristics and accompanying...

متن کاملClinical Inquiry: is there a primary care tool to detect aberrant drug-related behaviors in patients on opioids?
Yes. Of the several screening instruments developed and originally validated in patients in a pain center population (TABLE), one also has been validated in primary care. The Current Opioid Misuse Measure (COMM) predicts aberrant drug-related behaviors in primary care patients who have been prescribed opioids within the past 12 months with a sensitivity of 77% and specificity of 77% (strength o...
